Ghazal Alagh is a leading female entrepreneur in India. She is the Chief Mama and Co-Founder of Mamaearth Cosmetics. It was founded in 2016 as a toxin-free skincare brand. Ghazal is worth $17 million, and her annual income from the Mama Earth brand is estimated to be more than INR 35 crores. In FY21, the company generated operating revenue of Rs. 461 crore, representing a significant increase in profit over FY20. In a highly competitive market of beauty and skincare brands, Ghazal’s beauty brand has maintained a strong presence in both the Indian and international markets in just five years.
Ghazal is also a co-founder of Derma.com, a skincare and haircare brand founded in 2020. She also works as a corporate trainer.
Ghazal Alagh was born on September 2, 1988, in Gurgaon, Haryana, to Kailash Saini and Sunita Saini. She attended school in Gurgaon and earned a bachelor’s degree in computer application from Panjab University in 2010. Ghazal studied figurative painting at the New York Academy of Art and took a summer intensive course at the School of Visual Arts.
Ghazal began her career as a corporate trainer for NIIT Limited in 2008, and in 2012, she founded the website Dietexpert.com, which aimed to provide its audiences with a customized diet based on their health, weight, and age group, and lifestyle.
According to the company, she and her husband Varun Alagh co-founded the first Indian baby care brand that offers chemical-free items in 2015. According to the company, the brand is the first to deal with products that are free of chemicals, and toxins, and are safe for the skin. The business began as a direct-to-consumer (d-2-c) brand. Within five years of its establishment, the company had evolved from serving babycare products to serving personal care products.
In an interview, Ghazal explained why she founded her brand Mamaearth. She stated, “As an infant, my first child, Agastya, was severely allergic, and we could only use toxin-free products on him. That’s when my husband and I realized there weren’t many toxin-free baby care products on the market in India “.
Ghazal got married to Varun Alagh in 2011. Agastya Alagh, the couple’s child, was also born.
Mamaearth is now one of India’s most well-known baby care and personal care brands. In just five years, the company has risen to become one of the fastest-growing FMCG brands. The company made a massive profit of approximately 460 crores in FY21, compared to approximately 109 crores in 2019.
Ghazal rose to prominence after appearing as a “Shark” on the television reality show Shark Tank India. As Sharks, the show features seven of India’s most successful entrepreneurs. It is the first Indian reality show to focus on business ideas and startups; the show’s judges invest in business ideas in exchange for equity in new startups.
Mamaearth was named the best brand of the year for 2018-2019. In December 2021, she and her husband were featured on the cover of Forbes magazine. She was named to India’s list of under forty achievers in 2019 and received the Super Startups Asia Award the same year.

Ghazal is an art enthusiast in addition to her business skills. She has been named one of India’s top female artists. In an interview, she stated, “Art is my passion, and I have a distinct style.” I’ve shown my work both nationally and internationally, and I’ve been named one of India’s top ten female artists.
Ghazal is a frequent social media user, with 215k followers on Instagram. She is also a dog lover who posts photos of her dog and family on social media.
